Increasing Tax Rates Does Not Necessarily Lead to Higher Income Tax Receipts

Tax cuts can create incentives for individuals to work, save, and invest, which can generate more revenue.

The most dramatic decline in the top individual income tax rate, from 70 percent to 28 percent, occurred during the Reagan Administration, during which tax receipts remained relatively constant as a share of the economy.

25 Million Small Businesses in U.S. Employ Fewer than 10 Employees

In 2007, the last year for which we have data,
according to the Census Bureau, there were 21.7 million businesses in the United States with no employees—meaning they were sole proprietorships, or free-lance businesses employing only their owner.

Of the 6 million remaining businesses in the U.S., more than 3 million had 1 to 4 employees, and 1 million had 5 to 9.

So, all in all, small businesses run by 1 person employing fewer than 10 numbered an astonishing
25 million.

Going back to 1921, the current bull market's rally is only 2 percentage points shy of the average performance. And the average bull market has lasted only 6 weeks longer.

The median bull-market return and duration are
+115.4% and 50 months, respectively—leaving the current bull market looking long in the tooth indeed.
